Job Description Summary:

This entry-level position in J.B. Hunt’s Legal Department is responsible for supporting senior members of J.B. Hunt’s Legal Department and business leaders in the Dedicated Contract Services business unit by negotiating, drafting, and reviewing sell-side and buy-side agreements including transportation agreements, outsourcing agreements, technology agreements, commercial leases, equipment purchase agreements, and various other types of business agreements.

Job Description:

The successful candidate for this role will:

  • Assist with the negotiation, drafting, evaluation, and finalization of commercial agreements in a timely manner

  • Develop and leverage internal and external relationships and networks to maximize the achievement of business goals

  • Balance multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and meeting tight implementation timelines

  • Assist with the provision of legal, compliance, and insurance advice to business leaders in the Dedicated Contract Services business unit

  • Provide support and assistance to senior members of J.B. Hunt’s Legal Department

  • Assist in the direction of legal support for business transactions and projects involving risk

  • Identify, assess, and manage risk to the company

  • Participate in other duties as assigned

What does it take to be considered?

  • Doctoral degree (Juris Doctor) from an ABA-accredited law school with excellent academic credentials

  • No previous legal experience is required, but experience as a law clerk or legal extern in a corporate legal department and/or an undergraduate business degree or other business experience is strongly preferred

  • Other Qualifications (Licenses/Certifications): Must be licensed to practice law (and in good standing) in at least one jurisdiction. Candidates preparing to take a bar exam may be considered, contingent upon passing the bar and obtaining a license to practice law

  • Excellent organizational skills, writing skills, listening and oral communications skills, diplomacy, finesse and interpersonal skills

  • Strong judgment and skill in distinguishing between high and low priority legal and/or commercial issues

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment

  • Ability to work independently or on a team

  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with business leaders at all levels of the organization

  • Good attitude and willingness to learn
