Job Description Summary:

The position is responsible for helping create the vision and strategy for User Experience at J. B. Hunt along with advancing its maturity level. Evangelizes and educates the value of UX while continually researching and implementing improvements to the UX culture and processes. Creates web and mobile user interface designs that meet the stated mission and design goals of the UX team. They accomplish this by leading and executing the activities of the J. B. Hunt User Experience Design (UXD) process and producing the deliverables of that process. Takes on a leadership role with junior UX team members, other IT teams, and business groups that impact designs. They also lead the User Experience Governance (UXG) process.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advances User Experience within J. B. Hunt by creating and executing a vision and strategy for UX and managing its maturity against industry accepted UX maturity models in order to maximize its effectiveness and embed its place in the organization's corporate culture.

  • Suggests and reviews suggested changes to improve J.B. Hunt UX best practices, including new screen patterns, styles, and the J.B. Hunt UX process to ensure changes align with long-term strategy and organizational goals.

  • Governs the practice of User Experience within J. B. Hunt by creating, leading, managing, and participating in a User Experience governance strategy in order to fully, correctly, and consistently apply User Experience to all J. B. Hunt software development projects.

  • Collaborates and facilitates relationships with Business Analysts, UX Designers, and Developers to analyze business goals and provide advice on requirements based on UX practices, advocate for the user and explain design processes, implement feedback, and understand the technical feasibility of designs.

  • Evangelizes User Experience by communicating and educating software development teams, IT management, and other impacted business groups (i.e. business stakeholders) on UX (processes, design standards, principles, and best practices) and its results (i.e. meeting UX KPIs) in order to communicate the value of UX to the organization.

  • Enhances the J. B. Hunt UXD process by researching, assessing, recommending, and implementing new UX industry trends (i.e. methodology, concepts, principles, techniques) and tools (i.e. design environment, templates, examples) in order to continually improve UX within the organization.

  • Consults with leadership to establish team-level and project-level UX Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) by researching, recommending, implementing, and validating UX industry accepted measurement practices in order to properly assess achievement of UX standard level agreements (SLAs) and usability of software products continues to improve.

  • Mentors UX/Sr UX Designers in UX skill sets (i.e. user research, information design, usability analysis).

  • Ensures feasibility of UX designs that are technically challenging to implement or a solution is not yet known by coordinating and facilitating proof-of-concept efforts in order to identify a best design solution.

  • Manages impact of branding and styling additions and changes by collaborating with Corporate Marketing team in order to effectively implement those decisions in the J. B. Hunt web and mobile style guide, design pattern library, and icon/image library.

  • Ensures product alignment across all UX members by maintaining and updating the enterprise site map.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Graphic Design, Engineering, Business Administration/Management,or related field, or foreign equivalent, or suitable combination of education, experience and training; plus 8 years of experience in User Experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Nielsen Norman Group User Experience Certification.
