Job Description Summary:
The Expert Technology Architect IT Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery is responsible for establishing the standards, best practices, and architecture for the technology platforms across a broad range of Engineering and Technology disciplines by maintaining expertise within his/her background disciplines while maintaining and applying broad knowledge of other Engineering and Technology disciplines. Develop and maintain Business Impact Analyses and Business Continuity Plans. The incumbent is also expected to collaborate with and mentor Architects across disciplines to ensure that technology architecture is aligned and compatible.
Typical disasters that business continuity covers are but not limited to natural disasters including fires, floods, accidents caused by key people, server crashes or virus infections, insolvency of key suppliers, negative media campaigns and market upheavals.
Communicates with technical experts within Engineering and Technology to lend expertise to complex issues and manage all responses to internal and external audit requests for Business Continuity and Resilience.
Participates in high-level design and review sessions across Engineering and Technology disciplines
Develops and champions road maps to senior leadership for the adoption of new tools, technologies, and process, including the retirement of obsolete tools, technologies, and processes
Manages the trade-offs of architecture standards and implementations across multiple Engineering and Technology disciplines, including reconciliation of conflicts between different architecture road maps
Defines the platform architecture standards documentation for consumption by infrastructure, engineering, and applications.
Schedule, execute and update all Business Impact Analyses (BIAs) for all JB Hunt business units and serve as a liaison between the engineering & technology area and the business.
Leads the Architecture Review Board and be an active decision maker ensuring the company has an effective technology platform into the future
Ensures the adoption of architecture standards and directions set by the Architect Review Board within the areas of influence for the Expert Architect by documenting, coordinating communication of, and presenting the Architecture to management, leadership, and the individual contributors within the department.
Researches, develops, and approves the use of new tools, technologies, and processes within the department to ensure enterprise longevity
Defines, documents, and provides reference implementations of the architecture for other teams to follow
Mentors Expert Architects within the department through education, actively assisting implementations, and review of current implementations
Develops, updates and tests all Business Continuity Plans (BCPs) plans for JB Hunt corporate. Serve as a liaison with business stakeholders and gain their approvals of their BCPs and cadence on testing.
Ensure business stakeholders meet regulatory requirements for updates and testing of their BCPs aligned to the cadence for execution.
Solid understanding and expertise of at least 3 different platforms within JB Hunt for the Expert Technology Architect to Identifying an organization’s needs from the technical stand point.
Develop and maintain a continuous education and training materials for business continuity procedures and policies.
Agreeing plans with the various customers for the different scenarios established for Business Continuity and Disaster recovery options with the engineering and technology teams.
Overseeing the development and implementation of the Business Continuity Plans for JB Hunt and communicate feasibility and the risk analysis results of the various tracks for implementation.
Performing the appropriate analysis of cost benefit and feasibility for easy implementation of systems and solutions at JB Hunt premises with engineering & technology as well as the coordination with the business for easy integration when a Business Continuity Plan needs to be executed.
Excellent communicator able to translate complex requirements into functional architecture. Experience on software development and be able to manage complex programs. Integration of Business Continuity Plans from various business units will be one of the main responsibilities.
Producing progress reports on process, methodologies and plans for executing the business continuity and disaster recovery scenarios.
Acting as a resolver and guidance with problems as they arise by providing technical leadership and support to software development teams when the integration of the Business Continuity Plans are executed.
Plan and design the structure of technology solutions that are aligned with the Business Continuity strategy and road map.
Explaining plans to designers and developers, performing the evaluation and selection of appropriate software or hardware and suggest integration methods.
Monitor systems to ensure they meet both user needs and business goals once a Business Continuity Plan is triggered under different scenarios.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field, or suitable combination of education, experience, and training; plus 10 years of experience in one or more Engineering or Technology related fields and 4 years of experience in Technology Architecture
Preferred Qualifications: ITIL, PMI, Black Belt, Professional Certifications related to an Engineering and Technology field
Experience: Seven or more years of experience or equivalent experience and/or training.
2+ years of full time business continuity planning/testing/analysis experience required
