Job Summary:

The Data Governance Privacy Engineer will fill the gap left between privacy policy and technology implementation. The position protects company information systems and assets by profiling, analyzing and cataloging structured and unstructured data sources. As the Data Governance Privacy Engineer, you will primarily be responsible for delivering solutions that enable the Privacy program to work smarter and faster in servicing of our business partners, and ultimately the consumer. You will need to demonstrate an excellent ability to rapidly assimilate and work successfully in a highly matrixed organization and forge partnerships with legal, analysts, HR, IT, and vendors. Additionally, you will support the continuous improvement effort to refine the processes and tools that support the entire Privacy program team.

Job Description:

  • Manage the installation and maintenance of networking hardware, privacy software, and systems.

  • Conducts structured and unstructured data scans and tests by using a variety of technical privacy tools to increase compliance of information assets.

  • Studies and interprets past privacy events and current privacy threats to improve privacy compliance by developing and implementing new tools and processes.

  • Assists in evaluation and implementation of new privacy technology and toolsets to ensure optimal privacy posture.

  • Continuously maintain and prioritize product backlog, while actively identifying risks, constraints, and dependencies that would impact roadmap.

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate small projects; including gathering requirements, conducting research, task management against a timeline, and updating key partners and stakeholders in a timely manner.

  • Understand and translate the central strategies and enterprise data frameworks to business

  • Ensure all business processes and assets have been captured and are up to date in the Personal Data Inventory/Map

  • Develop and implement solutions to ensure privacy policies are correctly implemented. The implementations should advance compliance with legal forms of data use as well as support business use of data.

  • Work to align advanced technologies and Privacy by Design principles from the first stages of development and ensure that the data use meets established regulatory compliance needs.

  • Collaborate with data product development teams creating new uses of data that employ privacy features.

  • Analyze, design and program software enhancements for new data streams with a goal of developing technical solutions and systems to help mitigate privacy vulnerabilities and prevent potential future privacy risks.

  • Perform testing and debugging of applications as well as complete documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.

  • Interact with users to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications to new or existing software.

  • Interface with other developers and architects in implementing big data solutions that enable the business to be data driven while protecting the data assets.

  • Interface with usability team to ensure user-facing privacy controls are usable

  • Use data anonymization, pseudonymization and encryption to develop systems that preserve and improve privacy protections

  • Guide the development of new privacy products and features.

  • Acts as key interface to data science and analytics communities both within and outside of the organization.

  • Performs regular privacy assessments of operational processes, identifying, and mitigating risks across the company through effective tools, training and guidance

  • Creates, maintains and ensures integrity of database objects by running the appropriate advanced database commands.

  • Migrates data to facilitate testing by utilizing database and third-party tools.

  • Maintains appropriate security for database by implementing logins, users, and roles.

  • Creates and maintains database metrics and documentation for database configuration and support.

  • Diagnoses and resolves complex database problems and participates in database on-call rotation.

  • Installs and upgrades database software products. Automates routine DBA tasks and implements database maintenance plans.

  • Works with application developers to optimize SQL statements and provide general database support and training.

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer and Information Science, Mathematics, or related field, or foreign equivalent, or suitable combination of education, experience and training; plus 4 years of Database Administration or Database Engineering experience.

Preferred:

  • MS degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, privacy engineering or related field of study.

  • 2 years' experience in privacy / data protection or a graduate degree or concentration in privacy engineering

  • CIPT certification

  • Experience with IBM Infosphere technologies

  • Experience with data modeling and data modeling tools is preferred (e.g. Erwin, Lucidchart, etc.)

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to effectively communicate designs, proposals, and results; and negotiate options at management levels
