The incumbent is responsible for the assessment, training and development of commercial drivers for the Company. This includes coordinating and conducting orientation for new drivers, advanced defense driving techniques using the Smith System®, skill assessment and remedial training to ensure drivers have the necessary skills for safe operation of the vehicle. Works under routine supervision.

Conduct new driver orientation classroom training in a professional manner.
Conduct new driver road tests to ensure DOT compliance and safe vehicle operation. Evaluate the driver’s skill level and make recommendations to the Safety Manager on those who perform poorly or fail.
Ensure all required DOT and Company paperwork for new hires is complete and error free.
Coordinate driver road tests, drug tests and DOT physicals for new drivers in Orientation.
Perform skill assessments and diagnose safety issues with drivers. Provide remedial training to develop skill deficiencies to improve driver safety.
Conduct Driver Log Reviews (DOT Hours of Service) with drivers to ensure compliance and fullydocument all counseling and training received.
Provide education and training for new and current driver including DOT and state regulations, DOT Hours of Service, company policies and procedures.
Provide training in the Smith System® of defensive driving.
Perform DOT and Non-DOT drug test specimen collections by following all DOT guidelines and Lab specifications to include but not limited to checking for valid identification, collecting a urine sample (DOT) or cutting a hair sample (Non-DOT), completing the chain of custody and packaging for shipment to the lab.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred qualifications include a valid Class A CDL and DOT Medical Certificate Position may require up to 50% travel.
