Job Description Summary:

The Market Development Manager (MDM) is designed to be a developmental role that will prepare the incumbent to be an independent sales professional in a highly rewarded Business Development Executive (BDE) role. The incumbent will be trained in all aspects of the DCS sales process that includes, but is not limited to: development of business opportunities that will ultimately result in deal closures; application of pricing and design strategies within the company business model that will meet the customer’s needs; and contract negotiations with customers including Fortune 500 companies seeking to outsource their transportation needs.

Job Description:

The successful candidate for this role will:

  • Utilize excellent oral and written communication skills to develop business opportunities and provide outsourced freight delivery services by utilizing various methods of communication and interaction including but not limited to telephone and face to face contact with potential customers.

  • Evaluate and determine whether prospective business opportunities are prospects through a prescribed account qualification process.

  • Communicate and demonstrate service offerings by the company by using collateral materials, PowerPoint demonstrations and the like. Work with support groups such as pricing and engineering to obtain information that will provide optimal possible solutions for the prospective client.

  • Cultivate and prepare a pipeline of contacts and leads for the Business Development Executive in an assigned territory that can ultimately be developed into a contractual relationship.

  • Maintain status of activity and documentation of the qualification process within the company sales activity database (Salesforce).

  • Be able to meet or exceed quota expectations set forth by the sales vice-president.

  • Responsible for the participation in training for BDE position. Training is conducted on the job and via formal training with the guidance of the assigned Vice-president of the sales region. This will include application of the DCS business model and training in all other aspects of a BDE position and will be at least a one year minimum process.

What does it take to be considered?

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent from four-year college or university AND

  • 1 to 5 years of related sales experience and/or training; OR

  • equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Valid driver’s license from state of residence and meet company requirements for driving history.

  • Must be willing to travel

Other preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Dedicated Contract Services operations

  • Master's degree
