Job Description Summary:

The incumbent is responsible for management, safety and timely movement of freight, load assignment and safe on-time service. Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and responsible for all drivers compliance and company regulations. Maintain payroll, driver retention and sufficient operating ratio for maximum profitability.

Job Description:

The successful candidate for this role will:

  • Dispatch and supervise one or more groups of drivers

  • Monitor and train drivers to promote company safety culture

  • Ensure 100% on-time service by monitoring driver progress

  • Monitor compliance with safety and Department of Transportation regulations

  • Manage service of all equipment

  • Control driver retention

  • Other duties as required



Supervises 25 drivers in the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


Four-year college degree; or three years relevant management or transportation/logistics experience; or comparable combination of education, experience and training.


Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with customers and employees. Ability to make decisions in a timely and professional manner, plus have analytical ability, initiative and problems solving ability. This position is expected to work occasional nights, weekends or an on-call rotation.

Communications Skills:

  1. Must be able to communicate well with employees and internal contacts to achieve goals. Must be able to work in a faced paced environment.

  2. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

Mathmatical Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
