Job Description:

The Area Risk Manager is responsible for promoting, training and educating management and commercial drivers in Safe practices in accordance with federal regulations, company policy and best practices in the industry. The position is also responsible for consulting in the development and implementation of training programs for specialized dedicated accounts within the region for new account startups and existing business. The Area Risk Manager will also audit existing facilities within the organization to ensure Safe work practices and compliance with company policies and procedures, state and Federal regulation regarding worker, workplace and environmental safety.


  • Ensure compliance with company policies and assist in the development of account specific polices as appropriate. Train operations and other employees on company policies, Safety programs, initiatives and ensures that the company expectations for Safety are followed.

  • Audit accounts to determine that equipment, proper record keeping and driver work practices are in compliance with company policies, and best practices at each account.

  • Analyze and disseminate Safety event statistics and develop programs to eliminate identified unsafe work practices.

  • Review weekly reports for assigned accounts in order to accommodate the needs and areas of focus for each operations facility.

  • Assist in the development of account specific training for new drivers when required to start up any new business. Train and educate new employees on company policies and procedures.

  • Ensure all assigned facilities is compliant with State, Federal and local laws.Ensure proper procedures are in place for maintaining administrative records of Safety compliance information systems and databases.

  • Investigate accident/injuries for causes and contributing factors, and determine what acts could have been taken to prevent unsafe behavior. Make recommendations on safety events for possible changes to prevent ability ruling or DOT reportable rating as facts dictate.

  • Follow up with managers regarding the proper documentation of Safety related events, training briefings and driver disciplinary procedures.


  • College degree and/or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience and 2 years of management experience.
